EHSAN ORGANIZES AWARENESS LECTURES FOR AFFILIATES OF YOUTH CENTERS AND SPORTS CLUBS

On the occasion of The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the Center for Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan) organized several workshops and awareness lectures for members of youth centers, sports clubs and Ehsan clubs with the aim of educating the members of these clubs and entities about the rights of the elderly and raising the level of awareness about the problems and challenges they face, as well as to inform these groups of the services provided to elderly and the most important issues related to them worldwide. Moreover, the activities aim to highlight their developmental and social role, and to highlight the importance of that group who built the foundations that paved the way for development for new generations. The center always prioritized raising awareness of eldelry rights and needs in cooperation with many agencies and ministries, including Al Majd Center for Girls, Al Arabi Sports Club, Barzan Youth Center, Simaisma Youth Center, Al Daayen and Al Gharafa Sports Clubs, in addition to the Ministry of Interior represented by the Department of Community Police, the Department of Economic and Electronic Crimes, the Office of the Elderly in the General Directorate of Passports, and the office of lawyer Fatima Al-Saeedi. Parents' legal rights Lawyer Fatima Al-Saeedi spoke, during a workshop presented to female members of Ehsan Club, about the legal regulations related to parents’ rights in law and the provisions of donation and wills according to Sharia and law. She also explained the Social Security Law, retirement provisions, and home projects regulations in the Qatari law. The participants hailed the lecture and the presentation. Taking care of elderly is an act loyalty For his part, Mr. Salem Al-Enezi, Head of the Psychological Care Unit at Ehsan, delivered a number of lectures under the slogan "Their care is an act of loyalty", including a lecture at Al-Arabi Sports Club and Al-Gharafa Sports Club, as well as at Barzan Youth Center, Sumaisma Youth Center and Al-Daayen. During the lectures he addressed how to enhance recognition of the role of the elderly and their contributions in development. Al-Enezi emphasized that the workshops mainly aims to educate and raise young people’s awareness of the center’s strategic vision and objectives and informing the participants of the needs of the elderly, the types of abuse that the elderly may be subjected to, including financial, psychological and physical abuse, neglect and methods of prevention and protection of the elderly. The workshops included some exercises and competitions. Al-Enezi also presented a number of workshops for the male members of Ehsan Club, including a workshop titled “Psychological Protection” that dealt with an explanation of the Sharia’s teachings in the issue of protecting the elderly and exemptions related to them, as well as giving priority to elderly in everything and showing respect to them. Al-Anzi explained a hadeeth of the Prophet, peace be upon him, in which he said, “He is not one of us who does not honor our elders”. He also referred to the right of the elderly to be protected in wars and not to be attacked, as the prophet, peace be upon him said: “Do not kill an old man”. Al-Anzi addressed the most prominent psychological disorders that elderly suffer from such as anxiety, depression, loss of loved ones and thinking of death, isolation, and financial need. He further explained methods of treatment and prevention of these conditions. Many ideas were presented to retirees and creative stories of some retirees were shared to inspire other elders to follow suit. International Rights of Older Persons Dr. Amna Al-Suwaidi, Human Rights Adviser at the National Human Rights Committee, delivered a lecture titled (International Rights of Older Persons), during which she spoke about population aging as one of the phenomena that spread in almost all countries around the world, and explained that the number of older persons is expected to double over the coming years. Al-Suwaidi provided a historical overview of the development of concern for the rights of older persons and explained the internationally binding rights of older persons and political support for the rights of older persons. On the other hand, social worker Badriya Abdullah from Ehsan Center presented a lecture titled “How to deal with the elderly in problems and crises” for the girls of Al-Majd Center, during which she talked about the leisure time of the elderly and its impact on them psychologically, mentally and physically, and about the role of the family and society. She mentioned examples of elderly who used their free time in a beneficial manner.
